Project Scope
Japanese knotweed removal

Anthem Properties Group Ltd.

Japanese knotweed infestations were identified at 4572 Dawson St, posing a threat to construction operations for Anthem Properties. To mitigate this risk, a full removal of the knotweed was deemed necessary, considering the time constraints associated with the construction project.

Western Weed Control (WWC) promptly began creating a management plan to commence the project as soon as possible. To ensure eradication, the management plan recommended treating the knotweed with herbicide in advance of the removal. In May 2023, one herbicide treatment was applied to the knotweed shown in blue (Figure 1). Present on site for the removal in June 2023 were WWC’s vegetation control experts, tasked with conducting the project, along with an excavator operator, and dump trucks. The process involved excavating roots buried up to 3 meters underground and removal of materials via dump truck to a disposal facility.

The project was successfully carried out with a strong focus on safety and environmental responsibility. Overall, the effective removal of the Japanese knotweed by WWC prevented future spread in the area and allowed Anthem Properties to proceed with the construction project.
